More and more people are ditching cleaners made with harsh chemicals in favor of natural ingredients. But there are more options than ever before. How do you know what the best natural cleaning products are to use?
For me… It’s about finding something that works for our family. I know there will always be something “cleaner” or even “more natural,” but these are the options that we like. We like the way they work, we like the price, and we overall simply enjoy using the in our home.
In this blog, I will break down these favorite eco-friendly cleaning products. Every cleaner in this list is made with natural products or plant-based ingredients, and they are all extremely effective at what they do. You may not agree with me – and that’s ok, too. These are just the ones that we personally use and like the best!

Conventional Cleaning Products Vs. Natural Cleaning Products
Conventional cleaning products use a lot of harmful chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide or chlorine bleach. And even though these household cleaners have affordable prices, they aren’t nearly as safe to use in your home, especially with pets and children. These cleaners are prone to causing different health hazards such as skin irritation, allergies, headaches, respiratory issues, and more.
Natural cleaners are made with safe ingredients such as essential oils, white vinegar, citric acid, etc. They are also biodegradable formulas that are better for the environment.

Best Multipurpose Cleaner
When choosing natural cleaning products, your kit would not be complete without a multipurpose or all-purpose cleaner. This kind of cleaner is incredibly versatile and can be used to clean:
- Surfaces in your kitchen, bathroom, living spaces, etc.
- Glass
- Mirrors
- Floors
Then, pair it up with a damp cloth, like a microfibre towel, and you’ve got a great way to clean your house.
Our preferred one to use is this DoTerra On Guard Cleaner Concentrate. It is made with drops of essential oil, including a blend of Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary essential oils. Add it to hot water, and you’ve got yourself a tremendous multipurpose cleaner! With my kids rolling around on the floor for various reasons, I love knowing that my floors are not only clean but safe to be played on!

Best Natural Dish Soap
You don’t want to use chemical cleaners on the dishes that you eat your food off of. Instead, opt for natural dish soap. Seventh Generation Dish Soap is our favorite one to use that also does a great job cleaning the dishes. It does not contain any synthetic fragrances, but it still smells great. Oftentimes I grab it in bulk to save the most money. I like having extra in the pantry, too!
You can get it in various scents, including Lavender Flower & Mint, Lemon, Summer Orchard, and even Unscented.
Best Garbage Disposal Cleaner
Avoid using harsh chemicals, like bleach, in your garbage disposal, and instead, opt for something with more natural active ingredients like Glisten Garbage Disposal Cleaner. It is safe to use in your kitchen sink and is great for removing built-up food and odors coming from your kitchen sink. It also makes an exciting family showcase if you gather the kids around to watch the action! If you’re on Facebook, you can see the video of when we did it here!
Best Natural Laundry Detergent
I have found the best results for laundry detergent with detergents free of dyes and perfumes. Right now, we are using Arm & Hammer Sensitive Skin because it was the most recent deal I got. We also really like Tide Free and Gentle. Unlike homemade detergents, it is safe in any washing machine and is still gentle on your skin. It’s even been recognized as a top cleaner by the National Eczema Foundation and National Psoriasis Foundation.
This laundry detergent is great because it is unscented and doesn’t contain synthetic dyes or perfumes. Trust me, your skin will thank you for making the switch to this detergent.
I like to use Puracy Foaming Stain Remover for clothes with tough stains. This spot remover works well for odor and stain removal in any fabric. I found this product when my sister-in-law gave it to me at our baby shower for our twins’. Since then, it’s been the main stain remover I use, and I have had great success with it on all sorts of stains, including baby spit-up and diaper blowouts!
It’s a great brand all around for natural needs – I’ve used the shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap as well with great success. It’s eco-friendly because you can purchase refills and don’t have to keep getting new bottles all the time.
Best Bathroom Cleaners
The bathroom is definitely one room of the house that you want to make sure you have the best natural cleaning products. This will ensure you kill all the germs and get it sparkling clean.
For the shower, we like to use the Method Daily Shower Spray. It works well on tile, glass, and tubs to remove any soap scum and keep your shower clean. Plus, it has a fresh scent that will keep your bathroom smelling nice all the time.
For cleaning other parts of your bathroom, such as the sink, countertops, etc., Aunt Fannie’s Bathroom Cleaner Spray is a great all-purpose cleaning spray made specifically for the bathroom.
Best Toilet Bowl Cleaners
With a commercial toilet bowl cleaner, you are putting a lot of harsh chemicals into your plumbing system, which may not be good for it. Switching to a natural toilet bowl cleaner can do less damage to your pipes while still getting a good quality clean.
One of the best ones to use is the Better Life Natural Toilet Bowl Cleaner. It is made with tea tree and peppermint, leaving your toilet smelling as fresh as it is clean.
Best Glass Cleaner
For glass and window cleaners, you really can’t go wrong with Aunt Fannie’s Glass & Window Cleaning Vinegar Wash. It is one of the best plant-based window cleaners because it doesn’t leave any residue that can be seen in the light and contains no toxic chemicals.
Best Stainless Steel Cleaner
Cleaning stainless steel sinks and other appliances can be a bit tricky. They tend to streak easily, show every fingerprint, and are difficult to clean. But these Therapy Stainless Steel Wipes make cleaning and polishing any stainless steel appliance you have in your home easier than ever.
Best Hand Soap
When washing your hands, using a natural soap can result in much softer skin and less irritation than you get with other hand soaps. We use Method Foaming Handsoap, which you can get in multiple scents, such as coconut, lavender, grapefruit, and sweet water.
Best Natural Floor Cleaner
Because there are so many different types of flooring, it is recommended to use a product that was designed for that material. This will ensure it lasts longer.
For hardwood floors, try Aunt Fannie’s Hardwood Floor Cleaner. Or we have also used Method Daily Wood Cleaner for wood products in our home.
As an alternative to the DoTerra On Guard Cleaner Concentrate, you can use Better Life Dirt Destroying Floor Cleaner for linoleum, tile, or vinyl plank floors.
Making Homemade Cleaner
While natural cleaning products are great, they can also be expensive. So, if you have the time to make your own cleaning products, it’s a great way to save money while keeping your home free of harsh chemicals.
Before you start, make sure you have a spray bottle (we like to use glass) or another reusable bottle. These are ideal for storing your homemade cleaning solutions.
Then, you will also need to make sure you have the necessary ingredients on hand. This can include:
- Lemon Juice
- White Vinegar
- Sodium Carbonate (Baking Soda)
- Olive Oil (Or Vegetable Oil)
- Essential Oils (Tea Tree Oil, Peppermint Oil, etc.) My personal favorites are doTERRA.
- Warm Water
And you can find a whole list of natural cleaning recipes here that are easy to make and safe to use in your home.
