Now that our twins are 3 years old, we have come to a point in their lives that I dreaded very, very, very, very, very much. They have reached the age where most days they do. not. nap. Cue the mommy tears.

We tried and tried and tried to get them to continue napping. Some days they still would like to take one, but I don’t let them. That sounds horrible, but the problem we have when they nap is their little brains won’t shut off until almost 11 pm! We tried napping earlier but they still couldn’t fall asleep at night and this mommy needed some quiet time in the evenings, and my boys needed a good night’s sleep, so naps went out the window.

Since we all seem to do better when we have some peace in the afternoon, we have been working on implementing a Quiet Time. I’m not super picky about what the boys do, but we do have a few rules.
1. They must stay in their room unless they need to use the toilet.
2. No electronics.
3. They must be as quiet as can be expected from 3 year olds and try not to fight with each other or their afternoon TV time will be taken away. I use TV time and fruit snacks as their reward for a good quiet time, and they are starting to understand that those things will get taken away if they pick on each other or don’t play quietly in their room.

One asleep, and one playing by his bed 😍. Also, please ignore the temperature on the monitor. It wasn’t that hot in there! I checked many times!

Yesterday was a magical Quiet Time, and although it totally messed up bedtime, I was not even mad. One of my twins laid down in his bed, covered himself with a blanket, and took a nap with absolutely no prompting from me. His brother quietly played at the head of his bed while he napped. (How sweet is it that they had to be close to each other even while one was sleeping?!)

As I’ve been deal searching I’ve been gathering things for the boys to play with that they can get out during Quiet Time. They really enjoy playing with these specific toys, and I appreciate that they can’t make much of a mess with them! Our favorite options so far have been…

Fajiabao Wooden Educational Toys, Double Side Magnetic Cute Animal Jigsaw Puzzle Drawing Board

I don’t have a specific Doodle Board on Amazon to recommend, because we got ours at Dollar Tree! And I love the chalkboard/whiteboard but when they’re alone in their room I take away the markers & chalk and just let them play with the magnets. They also have a basket of books in their room that they can look at and I turn soft music on their CD player to hopefully calm the mood. Most of these also work great for in the car when we’re traveling!

I feel like this mom thing is mostly trial and error, but so far this is what’s working for us for Quiet Time. Have you had to phase naps out for a little one?! Did it go well for you? I’d love to hear what you’ve learned!

Product Review Wednesday – NanoTowels Stainless Steel Cleaner

When we bought our house a few years ago it came with stainless steel appliances. Well, it was supposed to… we ended up having to go out and buy a refrigerator… but that’s another story. I love the look of stainless in our kitchen. But did you know that stainless steel attracts fingerprints?  The microwave seems to enjoy showcasing any sort of splatters from the stove. The dishwasher likes to highlight drips from the sink or countertops. And our refrigerator is just what we need – it’s counter depth so it fits in the space we have. But when the boys get water out of the in-door water dispenser they spill water all down the front of it and it tends to look messy more than it looks clean. 😂 We’ve bought disposable cleaners for it before, but then you have to continue to buy them so I just stopped using them. Great plan, I know. 🤪

When I saw these Nano Towels for Stainless Steel on Amazon lightning deal the other day I felt like they would be an extremely viable alternative to buying cleaners over and over for our appliances. Whatdya know, they did NOT disappoint! All it took was a little water and the fridge wiped down so quickly and easily!

Before and After with the Nano Towel😲

The Nano Towel for Stainless Steel will be great to keep nearby and I can wipe down my fridge and other appliances whenever I need to! One of my favorite things about them is you don’t need any chemicals or anything else, just the towel and water!

When I find a product like this, so simple to use and straightforward, I often wonder why I hadn’t looked for it before! Have you used Nano Towels? A quick search shows they have lots of other options as well. I’ll be keeping my eyes out for a good deal so I can try them, too! Product Review Wednesday! – Dry Shampoo

Gotta start this blog with a fact that grosses some people out. Sorry, it has to be done. Ok, here goes: I only wash my hair twice a week, maybe three times max. I often go 4 days between washings 😬. My hair is naturally very dry, and washing it all the time makes it worse! I learned long ago that going several days between washings is really good for it! It helps to keep it conditioned and strong! That’s where today’s product review comes into play. Dry shampoo. Today I’m reviewing 3 different brands I’ve used and like/dislike for different reasons.

Full Disclosure: Links in this post may be affiliate links. I use these to help keep my blog up and going! I appreciate when you use my links to purchase products (and I know you appreciate knowing it doesn’t cost you any extra!), and I also appreciate you hanging out and reading my blog! I have a love/hate relationship with dry shampoo. I have known for a long time that it would be helpful to use when I’ve gone several days since the last wash. However, I had a bad experience at first and thought all dry shampoos were the same! You see, the first kind I ever tried had a very strong scent that never went away and I hated it. Strong scents give me headaches. I couldn’t do it! That was waaaaay back in high school (wow, makes me feel old saying that!) and I haven’t tried one since. Until last year.

Last year I got brave and tried Osis +Schwarzkopf Professional Refresh Dust Dry Shampoo and to be honest, I LOVED it! It’s probably my favorite Dry Shampoo, ever! The only difficulty I had using it is that my hair is very dark and it sprays on white so I had to be careful how much I used and really work it in. Even with all that, it works, so it was a great buy for me! However, it was $15 for the can which I felt was higher than what I wanted to spend. The kicker was that it only lasted a few times!! Seriously! 4-5 uses and I can’t get any more out! I think the topper broke because it seems like there is still product in the can. But I couldn’t return it since this happened longer than a month after I bought it, so I felt I had wasted my money. That led me on a search for the best dry shampoo that was pocketbook friendly. (I noticed it has since dropped to below $10, so looks like a better price altogether).

The Batiste Dry Shampoo for brunettes was the next option I tried. I still have this one and use it some. I think it does a great job making my hair not oily and even helping to blend my roots in with the rest of my hair (I have some grays I like to hide). The negative for me with Batiste is one of the first times I used it I really tried to hide my grays and I guess I used too much, because every time I touched my hair or scratched my head the rest of the day some of the brown color came off on my hand! I’ve found that if you use less it doesn’t do this, but that made me not fall completely in love. Batiste has options for both blondes and lighter brunettes if you need a different color.

The most recent and my current favorite dry shampoo option is the Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo. I tried it because it was on an insane sale, and since then the price has dropped even further! If you click on the link above and select the 1 count (pack of 2) option then you get 2 for less than $6 right now! That’s about half the price of the same thing at Target! What I like about it: It goes on evenly. Not too much comes out a time so you can apply it easily without getting too much. It does have a scent, but it disappears quickly and doesn’t bother me. If you use a lot it also turns my hair white, so I have to make sure to blend it in well, but that doesn’t bother me as its easy to blend in. I noticed 2 other types of the Not Your Mother’s brand are also on sale right now. The Beach Babe Texturizing Dry Shampoo is on sale 2/$8 and the Plump for Joy Body Building Dry Shampoo is on sale 2/$6 or less with Subscribe & Save! I would say this brand works about as well as the Osis + Schwarzkopf Dry Shampoo I mentioned above, but is much more budget friendly!

My hair can usually make it a few days without looking greasy, so I don’t use dry shampoo all the time, but sometimes I just need it! I would really recommend any of these three brands, depending on what your budget is and what you’re looking for in a dry shampoo. Do you have a favorite that’s not on the list?

Did you know? Goo Gone Works on Laundry!

Goo Gone is GREAT for getting sticky off of everything! Have you used it? We use it all the time to get the sticky sticker residue off the floor or fridge (our boys like to stick stickers everywhere…) or just about everything! It’s great! I recently have found a new use for it (at least for our house).

Twice lately I have gotten some sort of greasy substance on my clothes. Something splashed on my scrubs at work, and the other was bacon grease while cooking. Even after treating once with stain remover and when that didn’t work washing with dish soap, then washing on cold, and laying out to dry, the greasy spots were still there! Ugh! I only own a few pairs of scrubs, so I definitely needed to get the grease out, and the other was a newer shirt I wanted to be able to wear.

Finally, as a last resort, I tried Goo Gone Spray on the spots. And it worked! I sprayed it on, let it sit for a few minutes, washed on cold with a regular load and air-dried the item, and voila! Grease spots gone! Pretty sweet if you ask me. The Original would work as well, we just had the spray on hand.

When I was pulling up links for this post I saw a ton of new products I didn’t know where out there! Seems like Goo Gone has all sorts of products now! In fact, I knew once again that my husband I were meant to be when I saw that he had ordered some Goo Gone Automotive Cleaner just yesterday! Goo Gone is pretty much the best – and it’s confirmed that he agrees with me.

I saw a ton of other options for Goo Gone, too. Have you tried them? What other ways do you use Goo Gone in your home?

Blogging. Trying Deals. Taking Pictures. It’s not as easy as they make it seem!

I appreciate when you use my links to purchase products (and I know you appreciate knowing it doesn’t cost you any extra!), and I also appreciate you hanging out and reading my blog! Blogging. I’ve always loved it! I’ve blogged for years and years… I started back in high school when I tore my ACL and had surgery. I named my knee brace George.

Since then I’ve blogged my college life and playing basketball. I’ve sporadically blogged getting married and now our life with twins.

I’ve enjoyed it all!

But there’s one thing I think is going to take a while to get used to! Lots of bloggers are these cute, tiny gals looking super cute in everything they wear! It’s a little overwhelming because that is DEFINITELY not me. I’m almost 6’ tall and I haven’t seen 120 lbs on a scale since pre-high school. To clarify, I’m usually really confident in who I am and I have no desire to be much smaller than I am (most of us usually want to lose a pound or to if we’re honest with ourselves, right?), but that doesn’t mean I want to take lots of pics of myself and post them for the world to see. Not that I have to. I know I don’t. I’ve just been realizing how helpful it is to readers if they see a real life person in a real life outfit. Much better than a random Amazon link! So, I’m going to be trying it. I don’t even own a full length mirror… this is gonna be fun.

In order to ease myself into the process, I wanted to show you this amazing dress I got this week! I ordered the wine color because it was on sale for $9.99 in my size! I found the dress because Simply Becca modeled it last week. She’s much smaller and cuter than I am, but it looked like maybe a dress I would like. With free prime shipping and free returns I ordered it!

When I tried it on I fell in love! It’s soft, it’s comfy, it hides the extra skin the twins left me with (they give such good gifts). I even had running shorts on underneath and you couldn’t tell! Oh, and it has POCKETS! I think it would look cute with a kimono or jean jacket, too!

Next, it was time to get the picture. The boys were outside playing so I thought maybe they could help me. Since they’re 3… aiming is still a challenge. They each DID manage to get a picture from the waist down (but mostly just my feet and the grass), though my face was nowhere to be seen. I also tried the self timer (see the thumbs up) and posing was a huge challenge! The selfie attempt was hard to fit my whole 6’ frame in.

All of that to say I loved the dress, and I am sorry for the quality of the pictures 😃. If you want to try it for yourself, here’s the link!

$4.99 Essence Mascara – My Honest Review

Full Disclosure: Links in this post may be affiliate links. I use these to help keep my blog up and going! I appreciate when you use my links to purchase products (and I know you appreciate knowing it doesn’t cost you any extra!), and I also appreciate you hanging out and reading my blog! I tried out the $4.99 Amazon Essence Mascara everyone is talking about. I have posted it on my Facebook Deal Page a few times because I have heard great things about it, so I figured I should try it out for myself. And I was really excited to try it as I usually spend quite a bit more on mascara. I’ll admit, while I only buy natural makeup and am really careful about what I put on my face, I haven’t been so cautious with mascara. (Although most recently I’ve used this Mascara which is supposed to be a little better for you, but I buy it during Black Friday sales). I usually only have 3 main requirements for mascara that I use. 4 if you count the fact that it needs to be affordable. My 4 requirements for mascara are that it needs to:

  1. Go on easily without splattering my face.
  2. Come off easily without special makeup cleaners.
  3. Stay on without smearing (and look good).
  4. Be affordable.

So, how did the $4.99 Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara match up to my expectations? Here’s my honest review!

  1. Go on easily without splattering my face. It definitely went on easily and I had no problems with it splattering. It looks thick without being a fiber mascara. I was very impressed and thought it looked like a much more expensive product!
  2. Come off easily without special makeup removers. This mascara met this expectation as well! I was able to use my regular face wash and it came off fairly easily. Sometimes I had to scrub a bit, but usually it was off quickly and without any extra work.
  3. Stay on without smearing (and look good): This is where I had some issues. Going on, this mascara looked GREAT! I loved it! However, I use essential oils + coconut oil on my face daily, which don’t 100% absorb. I love them, I’m not stopping using them (I’d also highly recommend them lol). This does make it easier for mascara to smear on my face, I get it. But I have successfully used a few other brands with minimal smear… and the Essence Mascara just didn’t quite meet my expectations. Some days were better than others, but it was pretty smeary most of the time on me. I’ve seen hundreds of recommendations for this mascara, and almost everyone loves it! Based on that I’d still say give it a shot if your face isn’t oily, but it may not work the best for oily faces.
  4. Be affordable. Definitely. $4.99 is a great price for mascara!

Sooo… my honest review wasn’t was I was expecting, but I want ya’ll to know that I try to only promote great products. For those it works for, I’m jealous! For me, I’m going to keep looking for the perfect mascara! So far, I’d recommend any mascara by Tarte, but make sure to follow my Fun2Find Deals Facebook page to find out when it’s on sale!

Makeup Brush Cleaning – Some “Dos” and “Don’ts”

How often do you clean your Makeup brushes? I currently need to wash mine again! A quick google search says once a week is ideal to clean our makeup brushes! I am definitely not on top of it like that, but I have learned a few things trying to keep mine clean.

Keeping makeup brushes clean is super important! Not only can makeup buildup in the brushes be irritating to our skin, but it can also be a breeding ground for bacteria! Even in my 30s I get the occasional breakout, so I try to do everything I can to avoid them when possible.

A silicone cleaning tool is super helpful to get the makeup out of the bristles without ruining the brush! I currently have one very similar to this one. You can hold it with one hand and the brush with the other. I like it and think it works well. I recently also saw this silicone mat! The cool thing about is that you can just lay it in the bottom of the sink and you don’t have to hold it.

(affiliate links): Pink or Aqua?

The other thing I make sure I have on hand is a good makeup brush cleaner. Harsher cleaners can mess with the bristles. There are some good reviews on using Dawn dish cleaner and Olive Oil, but it was easier for me personally to just get a cleaner that I knew was safe. There are all sorts of price points out there, but of course I tried to get the best deal. I’ve been very happy with this one! I also use very little of it at a time so it’s lasted me quite a while! (I bought it 2 years ago and still have quite a bit left… maybe I should clean my brushes more!)

I hope these tips help a little! What tools have you found are helpful in keeping your Makeup brushes clean?
