Product Review Wednesday – Windmill Watermelon Slicer

We had a lot of fun trying out this week’s product! I have seen these Windmill Watermelon Slicers EVERYWHERE lately, so we had to try it out for ourselves! Seriously, it was the easiest thing I’ve ever used to cut a watermelon. Super quick and super easy. After I sliced the watermelon, I used the Windmill Watermelon Slicer to cut it into squares in a matter of minutes! And that’s about all I’ve got to say! Haha!

Product Review Wednesday – Makeup Remover Towels

While I enjoy putting on makeup – well, maybe not the actual putting on, but I like the end result – I really don’t like taking it off! Random fact: I usually only take 5 minutes on my makeup in the morning! I want it to look nice, but not take significant time out of my day. (Please don’t tell me that you could tell… 🤪). On the flip side, I HATE scrubbing at my face to get my makeup off! It’s the worst! I’d been hearing about makeup remover cloths and finally decided to try some when I found a good deal on Amazon!

Recently I tried these. Always Off Makeup Remover Cloths.

At first I wasn’t sure if I liked them or not. Lately, I’m annoyed if I don’t have one clean to use! They’ve become a great part of my facial care routine!

S & T Always Off Makeup Remover Cloths

Although I wash my face with soap twice a day, I hate using other makeup removers on my face. I’m not sure why – I think because of the additional expense (eye makeup remover + cotton swabs for example), the additional time, and not finding a natural eye-makeup remover I liked. I’m all for the most natural, least expensive, and least time intensive route when it comes to daily care routines. Before getting these cloths I usually got *most* of the eye makeup off at night and just let it smear a little, and then when I washed my face in the morning I’d get the rest off.

I saw these microfiber makeup remover cloths for the first time a while ago on Amazon. They looked like a fun idea, and useful if they would remove eye makeup without an additional product, but I didn’t want to spend $10 unless I knew I was going to use them. Well, one day I noticed this pack of Reusable Microfiber Makeup Remover Cloths for a lot less than $5! I felt like I could spend that for a trial run! I added them to my cart.

I honestly wasn’t expecting to really like them. I wasn’t sure if they would remove my mascara with just water… it seemed too much to ask. However, I’ve had GREAT success with them! I use one to clean off the mascara as good as possible with water, and then when I wash my face the rest just comes off. They do remove my makeup with just water, too, but I still have to use soap because that’s me 😂. My face tends to break out more if I don’t wash my face twice a day… so I just stick with that.

I am impressed with the pack of cloths I originally got. The 3 pack is almost enough for me. I think a few more would be nice. I throw them in with my regular laundry and usually have a clean one available. I have noticed that the edges are already starting to fray/come apart a little at the seam. So once they need replaced I think I will get the nicer pack to see if they’ll last a little longer. A friend also told me that the MakeUp Eraser cloths have two sides – a softer side and a side meant more for scrubbing. I think that’s a cool feature! They’re a little more pricey, but she said they’re worth it!

For the rest of my facial routine I use doTERRA Essential Oils and products and really love them! Feel free to ask if you’d like to know what I use. (And yes, I know a lot of oil users use coconut oil to wash their face, but it just didn’t work well for me… so I use a doTERRA or Neutrogena facial cleanser because that’s what I’ve found works).

So, there you go! That’s a little about my daily facial regimen. Have you tried the Reusable Microfiber Makeup Remover Towels? Tell me how you like them!

Product Review Wednesday – Step 2 Kid’s Art Easel

Some of my favorite gifts for the twins have been things we never asked for! Last year for the twins’ 2nd birthday their Aunt Khaki (Aunt Kathy) got them this Step 2 Easel and some additional dry erase markers. It has been wonderful!

The boys love to color on both the chalkboard side and the white board side. And they really enjoy playing with the magnets as well! It’s super fun! I was really impressed the other day when B told me he wrote his letters and sure enough I looked over and the kid had written his name with no prompting, and pretty will for being barely 3 years old!

I’m really proud of this! 😀

The boys are really into spelling right now. They usually ask, “What is his/her letters?” pretty much about everyone! They can spell Mimi, Papa, Mom, Dad, their own names, their babysitter, and they’re always working on a new word or name! We use the easel to practice writing a lot!

Since the boys are only 3, and are super curious, we have had a couple issues with chalk and marker turning up where it shouldn’t be. The chalk is definitely easier to get off things, just an FYI haha. I didn’t give them the markers for a while and we had a bit of a learning curve, but they’re sticking to the white board better now. So far our only casualties have been a chair I recovered last year and the wall.

If you need a travel easel we have had great success with these little wooden boxes! They’re pretty much the same thing, only smaller! We use them for quiet time (I only give them magnets, not markers or chalk if I’m not supervising), in the car, church, or any time we need some sort of quiet play! These would also make a great gift for a little in your life.

Tip of the Day – What can Kids get free at Starbucks?!

Full Disclosure: Links in this post may be affiliate links. I use these to help keep my blog up and going! Since I was out of town and didn’t get a Product Review Wednesday blog posted, I’m going to share this tip with you today! I thought more people knew about this, but recently found out a lot of my mom friends didn’t know… Did you know that you can get a free “Puppucino” from Starbucks for your kids or pets? Well, you can! It’s a little cup with a dollop of whipped cream and it makes them sooo happy!

For budgeting reasons I try not to go to Starbucks very often, but when I do go I don’t always want to buy something for the twins, too. Is that mean? Lol. The great thing is I don’t have to buy anything for them and we can still all leave with what we want! I just ask for a “Puppucino” for the boys and the barista puts some whipped cream in a little cup for FREE! What’s crazy is each time we go I ask them to make it SMALLER. They like to spoil my boys with more whipped cream than they really should be having and it cracks me up.

The other day my Mom called me and said she was having a fun day with the twins’ cousin K and wondered if we wanted to do something. I wasn’t sure we could tag along because I needed to go to the grocery store. Well, even though I usually use grocery pickup (Walmart’s is always free, or I use Dillons/Kroger’s if they have super good coupons specific to pickup) because it’s hard to go to the store with two 3 yr olds, my mom talked me into going to the store with them. So, instead of TWO 3 yr olds we went to the store with two 3 yr olds AND a 2 yr old 🤪.

We wanted to make it a fun adventure so we stopped by the in-store Starbucks first, of course. Each of the kiddos got their very own FREE Puppucino and Mom and I got our favorite drinks. Mom’s still learning her favorite drink but mine is a black & white mocha half caff… in case you needed to know 😉

The only negative to our awesome plan was that the kids were pretty much done with their whipped cream by the time we got our drinks… and thus hyped on sugar before we even started shopping.

Ya know, you live and you learn. To be honest, they actually did a great job. It went really well. I think K kept my boys distracted and they were good little shoppers. It just makes a better story if I act like a martyr pushing 3 cousins around. 😂

Oh, another random tip is that our Dillons (which is a Kroger brand) also give kids free fruit to snack on while you shop. So after the Puppucinos were gone K and the twins got to munch on orange slices.

It turned into a fun adventure for the kids and I got my grocery shopping done, so I call that a win! Does your local Coffee Shop or Grocery Store have a similar option for kiddos? Never hurts to ask if you don’t know!

It’s actually kinda funny how much I love the little men in the picture below. I didn’t realize you could become so attached to toothbrush holders 😂😂. I got these for our twins’ bathroom… which is also the guest bathroom. I was tired of toothbrush holders that collect gunk in the bottom of them, or rust out quickly, or don’t have enough room for the fun electric toothbrushes we’ve been getting the boys to make toothbrushing more fun. So, on a whim, I bought these. They are so much fun! I think they’re cute, they’re easy to clean, and they work just like I wanted them to.

When we first got them I was only going to put 2 up for the twins’ toothbrushes, but they immediately opened the other 2 up and stuck them on the mirror as well. They like to move them around and switch the color they’re using. One tip we learned was to put a little water on the back of the suction cup to keep them suctioned longer.

I thought that the little arms would be moveable but they’re stationary… just FYI. The best part is that when we went out of town last weekend I just threw them in our travel bag and took them with us! They worked so well for all our toothbrushes, I plan to take them with us wherever we go!

We only needed 4, but I also found a set of 6 with more colors (the 2 extra are hooks to hang washrags on, etc, not toothbrush holders) available here. Or if you need 8 (2 of each color), you can find them here.

Thoughts on age 3 – Times Two

My 3 yr old twins switched personalities at 1 years old. Not everything exactly, but the calm, easy going one is now my Curious George who is always finding trouble. And the one that always bit me the first year and refused to nap or be held by anyone else is now pretty easy going and would rather do what he’s supposed to than go find trouble. Most of the time anyway. Haha.

Have your kids ever done that? Switched personalities or at least swapped characteristics about themselves? It’s the craziest thing!

What’s funny is my Curious George knows himself pretty well, even at 3 years old. When we’re in a hurry we have them take a shower in our bathroom instead of a bath in theirs. Several times I’ve forgotten to take my husband’s shampoo out and they’ve emptied it 🤦🏼‍♀️. Or I have taken it out and they’ve emptied another bottle of soap. Now when we send them into the shower, Mr. Curious George says “Mom, you forgot to take it out,” and points to the giant shampoo bottle he looooves to pump out and wash down the drain. What a kid! Reminds his mom to child-proof the shower!

Can you SEE the attitude?!

It makes me laugh every time. What kind of kid knows his own self control level so well that he asks the temptations be removed instead of getting into trouble!?

He’s also learned the art of asking for “Just one more.” He’s realized if he doesn’t ask for much, just a little bit, just one more, he can often get away with just a little more.

We were warned so many times when the boys were 2 that 3 would probably be harder. I’m not gonna lie, there are some things I don’t like about age 3. The boys have more autonomy so they don’t always like to listen. And it’s more purposeful now. But there are some things I LOVE about age 3.

I love how creative they are! They can think for themselves and they come up with the funniest/craziest ideas. The things they say and do! I shared this little anecdote on my personal facebook page the other day. They crack me up!

Since we’ve given up naps (aaaah) we have been working on having a “quiet time” in their room in the afternoons. Mostly so Mom can have a few minutes of quiet. At age 3 they aren’t super good at spending time alone yet, but I feel like we do have some good days where they play happily together without me for a little while. There have been some disastrous days as well… but I try to forget those 😉

Playing nicely together for a few minutes in their room during “quiet time.”

I’ve been picking up kid’s toys on sale for our quiet time adventures. We have a no-electronics policy during quiet time, so I need things to keep their attention. I made a list of them here

Another things I love about age 3 is being able to give them a small task, and they can do it. Like putting their plates in the sink after a meal, or picking up their dirty laundry. They can also buckle themselves into their carseats now (though sometimes they tell me they don’t remember how).

We definitely have our whiny moments… hours… days… and from what I hear, we always will! Yet we also have so much fun! My 3 year olds are the biggest challenge I’ve ever encountered, and they’re the biggest joy to my heart.

Quiet Time Ideas for When Your Little Kids Don’t Nap

Full Disclosure: Links in this post may be affiliate links. I use these to help keep my blog up and going! Now that our twins are 3 years old, we have come to a point in their lives that I dreaded very, very, very, very, very much. They have reached the age where most days they do. not. nap. Cue the mommy tears.

We tried and tried and tried to get them to continue napping. Some days they still would like to take one, but I don’t let them. That sounds horrible, but the problem we have when they nap is their little brains won’t shut off until almost 11 pm! We tried napping earlier but they still couldn’t fall asleep at night and this mommy needed some quiet time in the evenings, and my boys needed a good night’s sleep, so naps went out the window.

Since we all seem to do better when we have some peace in the afternoon, we have been working on implementing a Quiet Time. I’m not super picky about what the boys do, but we do have a few rules.
1. They must stay in their room unless they need to use the toilet.
2. No electronics.
3. They must be as quiet as can be expected from 3 year olds and try not to fight with each other or their afternoon TV time will be taken away. I use TV time and fruit snacks as their reward for a good quiet time, and they are starting to understand that those things will get taken away if they pick on each other or don’t play quietly in their room.

One asleep, and one playing by his bed 😍. Also, please ignore the temperature on the monitor. It wasn’t that hot in there! I checked many times!

Yesterday was a magical Quiet Time, and although it totally messed up bedtime, I was not even mad. One of my twins laid down in his bed, covered himself with a blanket, and took a nap with absolutely no prompting from me. His brother quietly played at the head of his bed while he napped. (How sweet is it that they had to be close to each other even while one was sleeping?!)

As I’ve been deal searching I’ve been gathering things for the boys to play with that they can get out during Quiet Time. They really enjoy playing with these specific toys, and I appreciate that they can’t make much of a mess with them! Our favorite options so far have been…

Fajiabao Wooden Educational Toys, Double Side Magnetic Cute Animal Jigsaw Puzzle Drawing Board

I don’t have a specific Doodle Board on Amazon to recommend, because we got ours at Dollar Tree! And I love the chalkboard/whiteboard but when they’re alone in their room I take away the markers & chalk and just let them play with the magnets. They also have a basket of books in their room that they can look at and I turn soft music on their CD player to hopefully calm the mood. Most of these also work great for in the car when we’re traveling!

I feel like this mom thing is mostly trial and error, but so far this is what’s working for us for Quiet Time. Have you had to phase naps out for a little one?! Did it go well for you? I’d love to hear what you’ve learned!
